Mathematics Videos

We've made dozens of videos that support popular
High School and Collegiate mathematics textbooks. We
work primarily with publishing companies and professors.
Sometimes we create videos from the ground up, other times
we re-order, edit, or add to existing material. Since
every production has different needs, we're flexible in the
way we approach each project, both creatively and financially.
Some of our clients prefer live-action videos,
where a math professor (either the author, or a professor
from our pool of experienced video math professors) solves
examples and problems from the textbook on a whiteboard.
We can also add graphics taken directly from
the textbook to our live-action footage. Our graphics are
state-of-the-art motion graphics techniques that make the
problems easier to understand and while remaining pedagogically
correct.
Some clients prefer computer-graphics videos,
with a professor providing audio-only voice-over. In
these cases our graphics department creates high-quality computer
graphics of selected examples and problems.
Again, we can include any and all necessary
artwork from the original textbook in our graphics.
If you prefer a combination of the two styles, we can create
videos that are part live-action and part computer graphics.
We can also include material from lectures, slides used with
overhead projectors, and any other type of media you use.
No matter which approach we use in creating
a video, we know that accuracy, and adherence to the author’s
teaching style, vocabulary, and methodology is essential.
We plan our pre-production, shooting and editing schedules
accordingly.
We do everything possible to get it right
the first time (including having the author or a publisher-
approved representative present during part of the shooting,
if possible), but we also understand that changes will always
be necessary, and we’re prepared to re-shoot any and all material
that isn’t exactly the way you (and the author) want it.
We hire publisher-approved professors to accuracy check all
our footage and in many cases are also on-site during the
shoot to catch any potential errors.
We use state-of-the-art Betacam SP, Digital
DV-CAM and High Definition video cameras, teleprompters, computer
graphics software, and digital non-linear editing machines.
In cases where the author doesn’t wish to appear on-screen,
we have access to a large pool of experienced on-screen professors
(we'll provide you with a demo reel and cv of all
candidates). Every production includes original music and
a dynamic main title sequence.
We can shoot live-action footage at our Kansas
City Studio, at our Venice Studio or come to your location.
If you'd like to include an ancillary CD-ROM with the video,
we're experienced at combining resources to create both forms
of media simultaneously. And we’re able to do our work
quickly, meeting deadlines -- at a competitive price.
Let us bid on
your next project -- no job is too big or too small.
We're confident that we can provide the highest quality work
at the lowest prices.
Promotional
and Training Videos

We've produced over 150 promotional, corporate,
industrial, and training videos. We've worked for clients
as large as Chrysler and as small as the local PTA.
Promotional Videos
Used to solicit clients / customers, as well as promote
new products or services. Often used as a follow-up
to initial customer contact.
We have writers, producers, and graphics people
on-staff, and we have access to a large pool of quality videographers,
casting people, editors, music composers, and art directors.
In-house training and Safety Videos
Used to orient new employees, explain new procedures
or equipment, or define company safety procedures.
We can work with your ideas, or come up with
a concept from scratch. We can script the project, shoot
it, create computer graphics, edit, compose music and provide
all phases of production and post-production.
Instructional "how to" Videos
Often included with the purchase of a product, or as a
step-by-step guide to do-it-yourself projects.
We're particularly experienced at helping
company executives, employees and other "real people"
relax in front of the camera so that they appear genuine,
confident and successful.
Corporate Videos
Used to define the "personality" of a company,
underline its unique value, and communicate its mission statement.
We use state-of-the-art Betacam SP, digital
DV-CAM and High Definition video cameras, digital teleprompters,
computer graphics software, and digital-non-linear editing
machines. Because we own our own equipment, we're able
to make competitive bids on all sizes of projects. Tell
us what you want to spend and we'll come up with the best
possible production for the money.
Customer Reaction Videos
Includes "real" customers giving enthusiastic
reactions to a service or product. Operates on a more
emotional level.
Let us bid on your
next project -- no job is too big or too small. We're
confident that we can provide the highest quality work at
the lowest prices.
CD-ROMs
and Interactive Media
As CDs become more and more common, many companies
find that making their projects interactive also makes them
more effective. Unlike traditional videos, interactive
CDs allow the user to go directly to the part of the presentation
that he or she is most interested in.
Magnitude first became involved with CDs when
we worked on Pinocchio, a children's interactive
adventure game for IBM. It quickly became clear
that promos and demo reels could also benefit from interactivity.
The same is true of educational projects.
With the click of a mouse, a student can get more detailed
help with the specific section of an example that he or she
is having trouble with -- while skipping over parts that are
already understood. We routinely include Internet links
in our CDs, so users can also access web resources.
Despite the high-tech reputation that CDs
have, interactive projects are in many ways easier (and less
expensive) to produce than traditional videos -- as evidenced
by the popularity of inexpensive children's interactive storybooks
like Right's Animal Farm, a title we created for
Little Golden Books.
Often we can make a relatively inexpensive
interactive version of an existing video by re-using existing
graphics, live-action footage and audio that was created for
the original project.
Modern video compression techniques make live-action
footage look as good on your computer monitor as it does on
your television set. For the Jungle Book CD,
we re-used live-action footage from the feature film of the
same name.
We're experienced at designing, writing, and
programming interactive CDs, and we believe that CD projects
deliver as much (if not more) value than traditional videos
do for the same budget.
Let us show you
how easy and effective it is to create an interactive CD for
your company.
Encoding
Video
As broadband internet connections become more
and more common, more and more video is displayed on the web.
Encoding and compression is also frequently used to fit more
video material onto CDs and DVDs.
Magnitude offers state-of-the-art encoding
services, including encoding/compressing to RealMedia,
MPEG, Quicktime, Windows
Media Player, iPod, 3G and other popular formats.
Because we use Media Cleaner, RealProducer,
and Helix encoding software on the fastest
available hardware systems, and digitize using our cinema-quality
editing machines, we're able to quickly encode any type of
video into the highest quality compressed media available
-- all for the lowest prices in the industry.

Costs
We want to work with you. Because of
this, we're flexible in how we arrange our fees. Some
clients give us a price range to work in, others prefer that
we come up with a bid independent of their in-house target.
In either case, we'll provide you with a detailed, point-by-point
bid that lists where every penny we spend is going, the dates
we'll deliver on, and the precise product you'll end up with.
We're happy to produce your entire project,
or provide support on only a part of it (such as graphic creation,
editing, or shooting). With smaller jobs, we can invoice
by the hour or week, if that's more convenient for you.
We've produced projects with budgets as small as $5,000 and
as large as 2 million dollars. No job is too small or
too big.
